The Dale Cottages story is one rich in values of care, equity, dignity, innovation, participation, volunteerism and hard work. It is no surprise then that these values continue to underpin our work 50 years on.
In 1956 the community of Armadale and Kelmscott recognised the need to provide accommodation for elderly residents. From the first public meeting it was crystal clear that the community of Armadale and Kelmscott would make this project happen and to this day we hold fast to the principal that Dale Cottages is a community organisation.
In October 1959 the first duplex was officially opened in John Street Armadale. Since then our organisation has grown in its mission to care for our community and we currently provide:
- 170 Independent Living Units
- 77 bed Residential Aged Care Facility
- 45 Community Aged Care Packages
- A range of social and recreational activities for seniors
- Community Catering Service
- Wellness and Information Centre for Seniors and the Community
- Greendale Centre Management
We continue to be an independent organisation guided by a Board made up of community representatives including but not limited to the City of Armadale, Rotary, Lions and the R&SL. The result has been continuous provision of accommodation and an increasing recognition that care and choice are equal and essential elements in service delivery.
Our Dale Cottages community includes our consumers, residents, staff, families and agents, our Board, our suppliers, our ancillary care providers and the greater community of Armadale and surrounding districts.
Dale Cottages sees this community base as its most valuable asset and we have enjoyed many fruitful years of community support and encouragement. The residents of Armadale and surrounding districts consistently respond to our requests for volunteers, fundraising, and support for events and we have grown strong on this spirit of goodwill.
